We were running a little behind this morning so we had to drive to school. Normally we walk with the school being 3 blocks away, but not today. Plus it was raining. After I dropped off Mason, ( and seriously some moms need to put down there coffee cup and learn how to drop off in the appropriate lane- let it go Beck, let it go) we drove home. I noticed a girl turning the corner and started to walk towards the school. I got out to get the mail and she slowed down and was looking at me. I got back in the van and then rolled down the window and said," Would you like a ride to school?" She nodded yes without any hesitation and came and got in. When she opened the door I said," Don't worry, I'm a nice mom." I drove her to school and dropped her off telling her to have a nice day. As soon as she shut the door, Natalie pipes up and says "Why did you give that lady a ride to Mason's school? " It then hit me that here I am telling both kids to not talk to strangers or EVER get in a car with someone they don't know. And here I am, a stranger, giving this girl a ride. I shouldn't have offered. She shouldn't have accepted. But isn't it crummy to live in a world where we can't help others out without the fear of creepy creepers?
I did my best to explain to Nat that it's nice to help people and kids out if they need help, but NEVER, EVER, EVER, get in a car with someone you don't know. Even if they "are a nice mom."

That is scary that the girl didn't even hesitate. It makes you wish you knew who she was so you could tell her parents. It is sad that that is what the world has come to, but it has.
I agree with Becca. It's totally sad that we live in a world like this. Makes me wish I was back in my little old farm town where I knew everyone and it was safe to get a ride with someone.
Such a dilemma. I would want to help someone too, but wouldn't want them to accept...catch 22? But I am glad you were a 'safe mom' and got her to school out of the rain.
